Setting up your microphone

Tips for optimal audio quality and microphone configuration.

Get the Best Audio Quality

Good microphone setup is key to accurate transcription. Follow these tips for the best results.

Selecting Your Microphone

  1. Open Whisp Settings (click the gear icon)
  2. Go to the "Audio" tab
  3. Select your preferred microphone from the dropdown
  4. Speak to test—you should see the audio level indicator move

Positioning

  • Keep your microphone 6-12 inches from your mouth
  • Position it slightly to the side to avoid plosives (hard "p" and "b" sounds)
  • Use a pop filter if available

Environment

  • Choose a quiet room when possible
  • Close windows to reduce outside noise
  • Consider using a headset in noisy environments

Recommended Microphones

While Whisp works with any microphone, these options provide excellent results:

  • Built-in laptop mic: Works well for quiet environments
  • AirPods/earbuds: Great for reducing background noise
  • USB headset: Best balance of quality and convenience
  • USB condenser mic: Professional-grade accuracy
